Whist Drive – 27th October 2026

The Matharpacady Residents Welfare Association organised an enjoyable Whist Drive on Tuesday evening, 27th October 2026, at the hall of St. Isabel’s High School, bringing together 36 enthusiastic participants for an evening filled with cards, laughter, friendly competition and camaraderie.

The Whist Drive was conducted by Mr. Dennis Baptista and Mr. Stanislaus Baptista. The participants put their card-playing skills, concentration and strategic thinking to the test over two sessions of six games each. A refreshing break with hot tea, biscuits and snacks added to the relaxed and convivial atmosphere.

Adding a special touch to the occasion was the presence of Ms. Lorna Cordeiro, fondly hailed as the “Nightingale of Goa,” who joined the gathering as one of the 36 participants.

The evening became even more exciting as attractive cash prizes were awarded to winners across various categories. Mr. Fleming Rodrigues emerged as the overall champion, securing the first prize with an impressive score of 93 points.

The prize for the highest score in the first half was shared by Mrs. Francesca Rebello, Ms. Mary Ann D’Mello, Mrs. Daisy Santhumayor and Mrs. Judith Gonsalves, each scoring 45 points. Mrs. Evla D’Souza took home the prize for the highest score in the second half with 51 points.

The special prizes for the lowest scores went to Ms. Lorna Cordeiro, with 57 points, in the ladies’ category, and Mrs. Marina Khan, with 62 points, in the gents’ category, where she participated as a gent. Each winner received their prize amid enthusiastic applause and good cheer from fellow participants.

At the close of the event, Mr. Stanislaus Baptista expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all participants and guests for making the evening memorable. He also thanked the Trustees and Management of St. Isabel’s High School for generously making their premises available for the gathering. He encouraged participants to register in advance for future Whist Drives to facilitate better planning and arrangements.

The participants, in turn, expressed their appreciation to the Association’s Committee members for organising such gatherings, which provide a wonderful opportunity to foster friendship, strengthen community bonds and enjoy one another’s company. The evening concluded on a warm and cheerful note, with everyone bidding good night and looking forward to the next get-together.

SAVE THE DATE!

The next Whist Drive is scheduled for Sunday, 29th November 2026, at St. Anne’s Church Hall at 10.30 am.

The Association looks forward to welcoming an even larger gathering for another delightful session of cards, companionship and community spirit.
