Shuffling Cards & Sharing Laughter: The Matharpacady Whist Drive Returns with Festive Cheer!
The Matharpacady Residents Welfare Association brought neighbors and friends together once again, organizing a highly anticipated Whist Drive at the St. Isabel’s High School hall on Tuesday, 22nd September 2026. Starting at 4:45 PM, the event marked the joyful revival of a beloved village tradition after a gap of almost 20 months.
A total of 32 enthusiastic participants filled eight lively tables. Strategy, focus, and good old-fashioned village camaraderie were on full display across two exciting sessions of six card games each. During the mid-game interval, everyone enjoyed a warm break filled with hot tea, biscuits, and piping hot snacks.
Celebrating Our Winners
True to the inclusive spirit of Matharpacady, cash prizes were awarded across the board—celebrating both the master tacticians and those who kept the laughter rolling with the lowest scores.

- The Grand Champion: Ms. Maryann D’mello dominated the evening, setting a spectacular record with 99 points!
- First Half Precision: Mr. Maxim Rego clinched the top spot for the opening session with a solid 46 points.
- Second Half Surge: Mr. Jeffrey Fernandes turned the tables in the latter half of the evening to finish with 47 points.
- Spirited Wooden Spoons: The fun didn’t stop at the top! Ms. Joanita D’Costa took home the prize for the lady’s lowest score at 66 points, while Mr. Colin D’Souza claimed the gent’s equivalent at 65 points.
Heartfelt Thanks
The event owed much of its sweetness to Ms. Joanita D’Costa, who generously treated all participants to delicious, homemade chocolates. A special note of gratitude goes to the Trustees and Management of St. Isabel’s High School for kindly providing their wonderful premises and fixtures.
As the evening wrapped up amidst ringing applause, the consensus was clear: it was a beautiful reminder of the tight-knit friendship that defines our heritage village. Everyone left with wide smiles, already looking forward to the next Whist Drive, which is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, 27th October 2026.
