When tragedy struck, the people didn’t just survive—they united, turning shared hope into a lasting legacy. What started as a collective effort for survival became a symbol of community strength and perseverance, withstanding challenges, natural disasters, and external threats to its existence.
Why Your Support Matters
Matharpacady is one of the last remaining heritage villages in Mumbai, home to some of the most influential figures in the city’s history. From Kaka Joseph Baptista, a key leader in the labour movement and freedom struggle, to Dr. Mafaldo Ubaldo Mascarenhas, a freedom fighter and Mumbai’s first Mayor post-Independence, this Village has produced individuals whose contributions have shaped the course of Mumbai and India.
Matharpacady continues to be a vibrant hub of creativity and community, where people from all walks of life come together. Iconic figures like Mario Miranda, Behram Contractor, and the D’Cunha brothers have called this Village their second home, and their legacies continue to inspire.
In celebration of this 150-year milestone, we are hosting a year-long series of events—cultural celebrations, art exhibitions, food festivals, architectural tours, and educational programs—that bring the community together, celebrate our rich history, and look forward to an even brighter future.
