The Novena Theme
The Novena of the Holy Cross at Matharpacady Village starts on Tuesday the 22nd of April 2025 from 7.30 pm.
The Theme for our Sesquicentennial Year of the Matharpacady Holy Cross Oratory is:
On the Pilgrimage of Hope,
Faith is our Compass.
It is indeed more than a coincidence that our Jubilee coincides with the Holy Jubilee Year that the Church is celebrating. In this time of Grace it is important to approach our devotion to the Holy Cross in the right spirit:
Preparing for the Novena
There is a lot more to our devotion to the Holy Cross than the recitation of the Rosary and Litany over nine days. As we approach the nine days of Grace let each of us consider: “What exactly is my hope?” “ In whom do I put my trust for achieving my hope?” “Where does my faith lie? In Jesus or somewhere else?”
Questions for ourselves
If my hope is in eternal life with our Father in Heaven, then, is my faith strong enough to change my life and bring me closer to living the life of Christ:
- Do I have the faith to act on whatever idea the Holy Spirit drops into my mind, even if it looks inconvenient?
- Will I give up something in this life that is selfish and keeps me away from Jesus?
- Will I give up trying to win all arguments and battles and leave outcomes to God?
- Will I forgive a wrong,
- Will I let go of a hurt or betrayal especially if the person involved was someone I loved or trusted?
- Will I restore justice to someone I cheated?
- Will I bring peace and harmony instead of trying to prove that I am right?
